“In Clara’s Hands” features music by and closely tied to Clara Schumann, with Juilliard String Quartet

Pianist Orli Shaham takes a deep dive into the music and life of Clara Schumann on a special program at Kaufman Music Center’s Merkin Hall on October 6. The concert highlights Schumann’s work not just as a composer, but as a superstar pianist who set new standards for virtuosity and the modern piano recital, while building her husband’s reputation and raising eight children.

Shaham will be joined by musicologist Sarah Fritz, author of a new biography on Clara Schumann, as well as the Juilliard String Quartet for a performance of Robert Schumann’s Piano Quintet, a work Clara championed throughout her life.
